This is our first proper look at the Redmi K40 series
- Images of the Xiaomi Redmi K40 series have appeared online.
- The pictures show two phones that look very identical to each other.
- The images also show a camera housing that seems similar to the Mi 11.
Xiaomi’s Redmi K series has quickly established itself thanks to its combo of high-end specifications and affordable price tags. The upcoming Redmi K40 series is set to join the party later this month, but you don’t have to wait until then to get a glimpse of the devices.
Images of the apparent Redmi K40 and K40 Pro have surfaced on China’s TENAA regulatory website (via Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station), but we’re not quite sure which model is the standard one and which one is the Pro variant. Check out the images at the top of the article and below.
In any event, perhaps the most distinctive feature spotted on both devices is the quad camera housing. It does offer a slight bump, but it also seems like a variation on the Xiaomi Mi 11‘s camera housing, suggesting that this will be a theme for Xiaomi in 2021.
Other notable design details spotted in the images include center-mounted punch-hole cutouts (seen more clearly if you adjust brightness and contrast in a photo editing app), flat screens, and the usual power/volume keys on the right hand side.
Tipster Digital Chat Station also claimed that both phones have FHD+ screens as opposed to the Mi 11’s WQHD+ (3,200 x 1,440) screen. This would be an understandable move, given that the Redmi K series generally cuts back on some features compared to the Mi flagship in order to achieve a lower price.
Speaking of pricing, Redmi GM Lu Weibing already confirmed that the series will start at 2,999 yuan (~$466), compared to 3,999 yuan (~$621) for the base Mi 11 in China. But presumably the base Redmi K40 won’t have a Snapdragon 888 chipset.
These aren’t the only Redmi phones we should expect in the near future, as Xiaomi has also confirmed that a Dimensity 1200-powered gaming phone is on the way. Furthermore, the Redmi Note 10 series will be launching in India next month. Which Redmi phone are you most excited to see? Let us know in the poll above!
