Raphinha produces astonishing skill to nutmeg Gary Cahill as Leeds beat Crystal Palace to go above Arsenal in Premier League table

Raphinha put together a moment of magic to grab fans’ attention during Leeds’ 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Brazilian lived up to his country’s reputation for ‘Joga Bonito’ as he made English veteran Gary Cahill look foolish during the first half.

With the ball out on the right-hand side, Cahill shepherded Raphinha so he was facing away from goal.

The 24-year-old appeared to be heading down a dead end, but quickly turned things around.

With two swift touches, Raphinha produced a 270-degree turn and knocked the ball through Cahill’s legs.

As he went round to collect the ball on the other side of him, Raphinha was hauled down by Cahill resulting in a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area.

In the game itself, Leeds secured their 10th top-flight win of the season and gained sweet revenge for a 4-1 defeat at Selhurst Park in November.

Leeds were quick to punish Palace for allowing them too much space on the edge of the penalty area when Jack Harrison’s well-struck shot deflected off Gary Cahill to give the home side a third-minute lead.

Bamford should have extended Leeds’ advantage in the 22nd minute after out-witting the Palace defence on the halfway line, but after spinning Cahill for a free run on goal, the Leeds striker ballooned his shot tamely off target.

Palace began to pose more of a threat as the first period progressed, with Eze’s individual brilliance keeping Leeds’ rear-guard on their toes.

Leeds made another fast start to the second period, extending their lead in the 52nd minute.

Raphinha’s thumping shot was well saved by Guaita and Bamford followed up to turn home the rebound from eight yards.

Eze could have hauled Palace back into it in the 67th minute but he blazed substitute Michy Batshuayi’s cutback over the crossbar.

The result saw Leeds overtake Arsenal and go 10th in the table on 32 points, while Palace remained 13th on 29 points.
