Oklahoma’s Spencer Jones nearly loses an eye after getting in fight

Watch the action unravel in the video below:

Since the incident, Spencer Jones already received treatment and underwent eye surgery that was performed by Dr. Perry Brooks who is based in Norman, Oklahoma. Woodrow Glass, the family’s lawyer, bared that Jones was only attempting to pacify the situation before he got involved in the fight.

“Dr. Brooks came out of that surgery saying (Jones) is extraordinarily lucky at this point, that he’s lucky he didn’t lose the eye altogether,” Glass said via The Daily. “And so he was able to do some things surgically to rebuild that orbital socket and thinks everything is eventually going to come back to normal, but it’s going to take a while for him to fully recover … unfortunately, (the situation) wasn’t de-escalated despite (Jones’) best efforts, and he became the victim of this vicious assault you’ve seen.”

No timetable has been released for his recovery after sustaining a serious eye injury. However, it has been confirmed that the University of Oklahoma Athletics Department was already made aware of the situation but has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, per Joey Helmer.

The redshirt senior is also moonlighting as a wide receiver for the Sooners after transferring from Liberty University. However, he saw more action in the special teams where he served as a holder to all placekicks in 11 games played in the 2020 college football season.

He is also an Academic All-Big 12 First Team awardee and was named to the 2020 Mortell Holder of the Year award.
